Florida Achieving a Better Life Experience

Join us in celebrating the Florida Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act. 07-15-2015
Today is a proud day for persons with disabilities in Florida and the thousands of advocates … like me. Governor Rick Scott signed Senate Bill 642, the Florida Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act. The bill establishes a trust fund for certain people with disabilities to use for education, housing, and transportation. Governor Scott was excited to celebrate Record Funding for Persons with Disabilities in his visits to West Palm Beach and Jacksonville. He also celebrated, the elimination of the Agency for Persons with Disabilities critical needs waiting list for the second year through the “KEEP FLORIDA WORKING” budget. This year’s budget also includes $1 million for the Employment Enhancement Project (EEP) to connect job seekers with disabilities to possible employers and job opportunities. Governor Scott has provided a record investment of $1.2 billion for APD this year and ongoing support for the past three years of $96 million towards APD’s critical needs waitlist.
The Agency for Persons with Disabilities, serves over 50,000 Floridians with autism, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, intellectual disabilities, Down Syndrome, and Prader-Willi syndrome.
